Slim it is indeed, and the latest company to jump onto the “load-shedding” bandwagon is i-mate. Known for its feature-rich (and expensive) smart phones, the company sent us its new thin i-mate Smartflip – a clamshell phone, which runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system.

The EDGE-enabled i-mate Smartflip runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 with all the familiar applications similar to those on your desktop. This includes Microsoft Direct Push technology which provides up to the minute access to your Outlook email, calendar, contacts, and tasks. The addition of a range of ClearVue document viewers including Word, Excel, PDF & Powerpoint makes this stylish device a complete package for those doing business on the run.

Bluetooth compatible, the i-mate Smartflip also features Hotmail, MSN Messenger, Internet Explorer Mobile and Windows Media Player Mobile, while an in-built 1.3 Megapixel camera, camcorder, MP3 player and interactive gaming add to its attractions as a mobile source of entertainment.

The Star Trek phone is a major innovation to the world famous Motorola Razr. The phone has major similarities with the Razr in looks but not in features. The Star Trek is 15 mm thick as opposed to the Razr which is 13.9 mm. The Star Trek has an external screen, which is surrounded by a chrome circle. Underneath the external display there are three buttons for music playback. Although there are various designs of the phone, the one I am reviewing has the three buttons in chrome color (others are in black).

The Smartflip has a host of connectivity options including Bluetooth, GPRS/EDGE, and USB 1.1 and also has a microSD memory slot so that you never run out of storage space. The 1.3 CMOS camera and the onboard MP3 player will no doubt be appreciated by one and all. The phone has a dedicated set of menu for the MP3 player and the handset also has MMS capabilities, a JAVA profile and a number of games. However the fact that this handset sports a Flat USB, which means its not compatible with any of your current miniUSB cables and power accessories ,wont go down very well with some users.
